BABYBROWNSUGAR MOM: YASMINE PARRISH

BABYBROWNSUGAR MOM: YASMINE PARRISH
Where are you based and what are your favorite things to do in the area with your family?
I’m based in Los Angeles, California and I love going on adventures with my son. We especially love pool and beach days. Swimming is one of our favorite pastimes. We also enjoy events around the city like Friday night Jazz in The Park at LACMA.

How many little ones do you have and how old are they? What do you like most about this stage in their lives?
I have a son, he’s 5 years old and I love that he’s truly my little buddy now. He’s finally old enough to go on adventures with me without so much preparation. Just last week, he rode his first set of roller coasters during our trip to Disneyland.

What does your kids' bedtime routine (or non-routine) look like in your household? Do you have any rituals that you swear by?
To be completely honest, we really need to work on our bedtime routine. My son is a night owl by nature and would stay up all night if I let him. It’s always a struggle, however, three things that we both swear by are our diffuser with lavender oils, a “Sleepy” oil by Doterra, and a nighttime meditation for kids.

Tell us about your current role, project(s), or business(es) and what is your inspiration?
Right now, I run influencer marketing for a popular CPG company and also run my own agency called Muse Makers Management. Muse Makers was inspired by Black people, the world’s trendsetters and muses - I’m here to provide world class representation to talent and business owners that are often missed and underrepresented.

As a boss mom, what do you want to instill in your little ones?
I simply want my son to know that the world is his, there’s nothing he can’t do and no one he can’t be if he’s willing to dedicate his time and energy to it.

What is an inspirational quote or mantra that you live by?
“Reach for the stars but keep your feet to the floor.”

How has motherhood changed the way you move in the world?
My first priority is to self and then to my son, everything I do is in service to those two people. If mama’s not happy, nothing in our universe works so I must take care of myself first and then the best interest of my child.

What has surprised you the most about your motherhood journey?
The most surprising thing about my motherhood journey is how much friendships change. Some friendships get tighter and others literally dissipate, it’s something I didn’t expect. There have definitely been some growing pains.

Any advice you would give to new moms?
It’s fine to ask for advice but understand that you were created to best take care of your child. Trust your instincts and intuition!
How do you allow others to support you as a mother and creator?
I outsource a lot, I have housekeeping that comes biweekly, I send most of my laundry out to be cleaned and folded, and have a stable of babysitters on standby. I NEED HELP and I am not afraid to ask for it or pay for it as necessary.
